We are seeking a Legal/HR Assistant to support the Company’s Chief Legal Officer and the Legal and HR teams. The person in this role must be able to take on multiple tasks simultaneously and use discretion and judgment when responding quickly to changing needs. This role will initially be remote, with the expectation that the position will be on-site in Berkeley sometime in 2021.

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for:

  • Executive support to the Chief Legal Officer and assistance to the Legal and HR teams
  • General administrative and office support, including setting up systems for organizing and maintaining documents in paper or electronic form
  • Become proficient on various databases used by the Legal and HR teams
  • Format, edit, and proof documents and presentations
  • Provide backup support for other administrative staff during periods of overload
  • Project management and follow-up on specific projects as assigned
  • Calendar and travel management
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidate must possess:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in legal department in biotech or pharma companies
  • Significant attention to detail
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
  • High level of poise and professionalism and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize projects, and flexibility with changing priorities
  • Expert in word processing, including Microsoft Office suite (WORD, Excel, PowerPoint), Google apps, and video conferencing systems
  • Understanding and compliance with confidentiality requirements necessary for Legal and HR teams
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative with minimal supervision
  • Anticipate executive needs while managing day-to-day workflow and prioritizing workflow
  • Seek creative and cost-effective solutions in daily activities and projects
  • Apply sound judgment to planning and time management on behalf of the CLO
  • Collaborative approach to working with employees throughout the organization as well as with outside parties
  • Enthusiastic service orientation
  • Ability to work flexible hours based on evolving business needs


  • BA/BS degree
  • Paralegal certificate
