Caribou seeks an experienced and highly motivated Vice President of Technical Operations to join its team at its research and development facility in Berkeley, CA. The ideal candidate will interact with management and others to lead process development efforts, quality control functions, and manufacturing activities both internally and externally.  The incumbent must enjoy working in a fast-paced and highly cross-disciplinary environment while interacting with our team of scientists and researchers.  This seasoned professional will be implementing a manufacturing strategy for internal development programs.  In addition, the individual will implement and manage process development activities, prepare documents for regulatory submissions in compliance with health authority regulations, and interact with and manage relationships with agencies and external subcontractors. The position will report to the CSO and will have accountability across all development programs.


  • Develop the strategic direction to manufacture products for clinical trials
  • Lead process development efforts, including scale-up, validation, and pre-clinical manufacturing
  • Establish analytical and QC testing to support development
  • Apply technical and management expertise to develop milestones, timelines, and project goals
  • Partner with regulatory and other functions to develop regulatory strategy
  • Strategize merits of internal PD efforts compared to external contract research organizations
  • Liaison with CMOs to coordinate their efforts to meet project deliverables and timelines

Job Requirements

  • BS degree in the life sciences required, while an advanced degree (MS, PhD, MD) is desired
  • Minimum 7+ years of process development and manufacturing experience  
  • Quality control experience desired
  • Practical experience working in cell-based therapeutics and/or oncology is desirable
  • Solid working knowledge of the drug development process and knowledge of FDA/EMA/ROW regulatory submissions and maintenance requirements
  • Strong strategic and analytical abilities, diplomacy, negotiation and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of cGXP regulations and able to provide guidance on regulatory compliance
  • Must be detail- and goal-oriented, quality conscientious and customer focused
